Prishtina is the capital of Kosovo, the youngest European country, and its political, cultural and artistic center. Here you should visit the Clock Tower, Mother Teresa Square, as well as the mosques Carshi, Fatih and Jashar Pasha.
About 200,000 people live in Prishtina and the majority of the population is young. That’s the reason of diversity of night life.
Most restaurants also serve food that has strong Balkan-Turkish influences. Highly recommended homemade burek, mantle, pie fly, which is baked under the baking lid, but also sugar desserts such as baklava, tulumba and tespishta can be tasted in Prishtina. If you like great food, you should definitely include Prishtina in your Kosovo tour.
Cultural capital of Kosovo, Prizren, is 75 km away from Pristina, and is located at the foot of the Sharr Mountains. It has the most preserved buildings in the traditional (Turkish) style. It is one of the oldest Ottoman cities in the Balkans, as well as a city in Kosovo where most national minorities live, including Bosnian and Turkish populations.
If you want to enjoy the beautiful nature, you should visit the Sharr Mountain National Park, which is part of the mountain range with the same name. The national park is considered one of the most important protected areas in the central Balkans with numerous endemic plant species.
On the northwest side of the Sharr Mountains is the only ski center "Brezovica". This sports and recreation center is located at an altitude of 900 to 2500 meters, and has a total of 16 kilometers of ski trails.
Some statistics show that there are 27 monasteries in Kosovo, of which the four most important ones stand out: Visoki Dečani, Peć Patriarchate, Lazarica and Gračanica. Visoki Dečani is one of the most important monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church, which includes the largest medieval Serbian church.
It is located near town Peć, and here you can see the best preserved frescoes in the Balkans. On the Rugova gorge near Bistrica is the complex of the Peć Patriarchate, which for centuries was considered the center of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Gračanica Monastery, near the capital is located in the village of the same name and was built by St. King Milutin in 1310 in honor of the ascension of the Virgin Mary. You can also visit the court church of Prince Lazar - Lazarica, which was built in the Moravian style, and is surrounded by walls whose remains can still be seen today.
