KOTOR – A PLACE YOU COULD NOT DREAM ABOUT

Have you ever visited a place where each stone is telling you a different story and where you can breathe in culture and numerous legends? Montenegro is well known for its stunning nature and passages, but Boka bay is a special one – mountains and sea, both zen and dramatic, special in summer and winter... Unique.

When Lord Byron wrote “At the birth of our planet, the most beautiful encounter between the land and the sea must have happened at the coast of Montenegro” he must have found inspiration right here! You will slowly drive back into history passing by old stone houses with wooden windows made in typical Mediterranean style, temples and churches standing still in their glory, old fortress rising high above the town, were shaped through ages and centuries.

One of the hidden gems is St. Matthias church. At the first sight, you will fall in love with medieval architecture and baroque style, but passing by the church you will see a new horizon right in front of you – and you will catch yourself gazing into mountains and turquoise water.

Each stone along the coast is telling a different story and legend – not only from Boka bay but from all over the world. Indeed, your eye will catch a breathtaking view of Our Lady of the Rocks – a man-made island in the heart of the bay. Legend says that in the 15th century two brothers found an icon of the Virgin on the cliff and decided to build a church in the middle of the sea. Sailors from Boka bay were transporting and throwing stones and rocks around the cliff for years until the church was finally built. Even today, there is an annual event held every summer when rocks are transported with small boats and thrown around the island – in honor of the church and one of many legends.

While the picturesque road is slowly leading you towards another part of the bay, for fulfilling all your senses, you should add a perfection of Mediterranean taste. Located on the top of the hill, overlooking the sea, in the shades of vineyards and old Savina monastery, there is a family is running winery - Savina.

Watching the most beautiful sunset with a glass of local domestic wine and bites of traditional Montenegrin food will make time stop flowing.
